What are axial fans?
11/17/2025Axial fans are commonly fitted on the cabinets of electrical equipment, and sometimes they are integrated with motors. Their compact structure allows them to save plenty of space and facilitates easy installation, making them widely used in various scenarios.
As the name indicates, the airflow of an axial fan moves along the axial direction. It boasts a simple structure, low noise, and a large air volume, but the wind pressure it can withstand is relatively low. Thus, axial fans are suitable for applications that demand large air volume and low wind pressure, such as ventilation and heat dissipation.
In terms of wind direction classification, they can be categorized into type A (air flows from the stator side to the rotor side) and type V (air flows from the rotor side to the stator side).
Based on the structure of axial fans, ebm-papst has developed several series:
ebm-papst A series: Made up of a motor and blades.
ebm-papst W series: Consists of a motor, blades, and an air duct.
ebm-papst S series: Comprises a motor, blades, and a finger guard.

The A, W, and S series fans are versatile and can also be equipped with accessories independently. For example, if your S or W series fan (which comes with a finger guard or air duct) is damaged, you can directly replace it with an A series fan (composed of a motor and blades) to cut costs.
APAC FAN is committed to providing customers with 100% genuine original fans, covering a range of internationally renowned brands such as ebm-papst, ZIEHL-ABEGG, DELTA, Wistro, Nicotra Gebhardt, Rosenberg, SANYO, FULLTECH, SANMU, etc. Every fan is officially certified by the brand, ensuring that its performance fully complies with the original factory standards and fundamentally eliminating counterfeit or defective products.
